bocad new version 2024: SmartInfo, point cloud, reference models, BIM, cloud licences

Bochum, January 2024. The bocad team will be presenting the latest version of bocad 2024 at the budma trade fair in Poznan and digitalBau in Cologne. The release has significant improvements to the user interface, BIM capability, collaboration, quality assurance and flexible working. All new functions increase ease of use and working speed as well as data exchange between project participants.

SmartInfo – the turbo database query for model checking

One highlight of the release is the addition of SmartInfo to the SmartFunctions. With this turbo database query, a very quick and simple model check can be carried out for checking purposes. SmartInfo immediately displays the information on a part or a bolt (Figure 1). When the cursor points to the desired element; it is highlighted in colour in all views and drawings (Figure 2). The information such as mark number, material and profile can be configured individually by the user. The function is simply switched on and off using the F1/2 key. The draftmen themselves determine when they require which information in which form.

OpenGL as a construction window

The Pick Elements and Pick Coordinates functions turn Open GL into a construction window. Points and coordinates can be picked as required, for example to measure distances. Grid points can be used to position elements such as beam and column.

Reference model and Point cloud in OpenGL for collision checking

Point clouds and reference models can be loaded in various formats to check for collisions.

The 3D model is visually displayed in the Open GL window without the need for loading time.

BIM features

Collaboration on BIM projects is facilitated with the introduction of format IFC4 for import and export.  It is now possible to configure the property sets and properties requested for the project and BIM Managers during IFC exports. Several configurations depending on the needs can be defined.

Collaboration: 9 languages for easy communication in international teams

Dialogue boxes are now translated "on the fly" with shorter set-up times. The user can immediately switch the dialogue boxes to another language so that the dialogues are automatically translated, which facilitates communication in international teams. Nine languages are currently available, from German, Chinese, English and French to Polish.

Cloud licences and bocad on the cloud for flexible working

bocad license can now be accessed via the cloud without a VPN. This means that bocad can be used flexibly from different end devices at the workplace, in the home office or on the move. It is also possible to work on bocad with a virtual workstation in the cloud.

Collaboration with project partners is also made easier. Finally, the application can also be operated on tablet or on the large screen of a smartboard at the touch of a finger.

About bocad

bocad is detailed design and fabrication software for structural engineering. The software supports designers and engineers with the creation of digital models, integration into BIM projects, automatic reports, fabrication and assembly drawings, as well as nc files. bocad covers areas such as steel, timber, roof and wall, offshore platforms, and transmission towers. The strength of bocad lies in detailed elaboration, from initial planning to the last bolt in variously complex structures, from warehouses to intricate buildings. The software accurately represents the connection of individual components, controls planning, and provides raw materials purchasing lists. This enables the production, delivery, and timely assembly of individual components on site. bocad is used by renowned national and international companies. Prominent buildings include the Ferrari Arena in Abu Dhabi, the railway station building in Liège (Belgium), the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, The Oculus shopping center in New York, and Roots in Hamburg’s HafenCity district, Germany's largest wooden residential building following the cradle-to-cradle principle.
