CHALLENGES
The hall is built in reinforced concrete and steel construction and has an impressive span of 2 × 28 metres. The covered area is approx. 14,300 m². The roof beams are designed as spatial truss constructions with a triangular cross-section made of square steel tubes. The supporting structure consists of steel truss columns and reinforced concrete columns.
ADVANTAGES
One of the biggest challenges was calculating the trusses with atypical nodes and coordinating the steel models from bocad with the reinforced concrete model from Revit.
Software requirements:
Creation of the detailed design for both the steel and reinforced concrete structures. The steel structure was modelled in two separate sections, which were then merged with the concrete model in Revit to create an overall model.
Particularly useful functions and modules:
The repeated use of exporting the steel structures from bocad in 'ifc' format and then importing them into Revit was an essential part of the workflow.
