CHALLENGES
Museum of the Second World War, Gdańsk, Poland:
The building of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdansk has become one of the most famous buildings in Poland due to its unique, sophisticated architecture, construction and purpose. The leading engineering office entrusted METIB with the detailed design of the steel structures of the façade, roof and VIP bridge.
ADVANTAGES
The challenge lay in the extremely complex geometry of the building, which contained no right angles. The detailed design of the steel structure was only possible using a 3D programme. In this case, bocad was used. The modelling of the construction went smoothly up to a point, until the number and complexity of the structural elements became so large that it was not possible to display and edit the entire model at once due to hardware limitations. Our solution to this problem was to divide the model into stages and then edit them step by step. Creating the implementation documentation using a 3D model was very time consuming and complicated.
