CHALLENGES
Photovoltaic sails of the Cité Musicale on the Île Seguin in Paris, France:
Construction of a motorised sail with photovoltaic panels (2x 850 m²) consisting of 2 three-dimensional, tubular structures that are symmetrically coupled together. The height is 40 m, the length at the base: 22 m each, the weight of the frame 150 tonnes. The complex modelling, fabrication and assembly was challenging given the project geometry and the loads imposed by the moving structures.
The 'sail' is a movable, solar-active structure that rotates around the building to optimise the use of solar radiation. It is an excellent example of a functional glass façade that not only provides light and transparency, but also integrates energy efficiency and climate control.
ADVANTAGES
bocad was helpful for the development of the bent tubes, wolfmouths and machine files for cutting tubes, interfacing in IFC or DWG 3D format with other building trades.
The use of bocad software enabled the project to be erected without a hitch, the development of bent tubes with wolf's mouths, machine files for cutting the tubes, the generation of IFC files for a 3D BIM model and 3D DWG files for interaction with other trades.
