CHALLENGES
Renovation Eiffel Tower 1st floor in Paris, France:
During the project to transform and modernise the first floor of the Eiffel Tower, designed by the Moatti-Rivière architectural firm, Duberseuil was hired by the Coulon-Thaveau steelwork company to carry out the design study for the reconstruction of the Eiffel and Ferrier pavilions, the 58 restaurant and two lift pagodas. 200 tonnes of old framework were removed and replaced by 199 tonnes of modern framing. The design of these new buildings had to be adapted to the existing structure, with as few openings as possible and no welding on Gustave Eiffel's beams.
ADVANTAGES
Based on the brief initial plans, numerous investigations and modifications had to be made as the work progressed, due to difficulties in adapting the existing framework. This work, which took more than a year, was both gratifying and fascinating.
