Bochum, 27 November 2023: This year's bocad user meeting was marked by the 40th anniversary and the new dynamic of SCHULLER&Company. Around 200 participants and guests came to Bochum, more than the year before. The agenda included the keynote speech by founder Prof. Pegels as guest of honor as well as the presentation of the new software version 2024 and the plans for 2024.
The bocad user meeting to mark the 40th anniversary of the software was accompanied by a new dynamic. The presentation of the new software version 2024 and the guest of honor and bocad founder Professor Pegels generated a great deal of interest among users, customers and former employees. The conference in the RuhrCongress Bochum was packed with around 200 participants. bocad is part of SCHULLER&Company since May 2022. Owner Helmut Schuller is continuing the software's tradition of customer focus and pace of innovation. bocad will grow through service, performance and new customers, Helmut Schuller promised customers right at the start of the user conference.
As guest of honor, Prof. Pegels recalled the beginnings of the first CAD/CAM software for steel construction in Germany. The software was the first to display a computer-internal 3D model of a structure with attributes, thus laying the foundation for today's Building Information Modelling (BIM). With pilot users such as Goldbeck, Atelier Poncin in Belgium and Torsten Weckmann, bocad was continuously developed further under Pegels. Customers are still the main drivers of innovation.
Stable license prices, very good support, regular releases
bocad records very good growth in 2022-2023. The license price will remain stable for 2024 and the price structure will not change. The focus is on providing excellent customer support and the further development of the software. Since the acquisition by SCHULLER&Company, orders are automatically converted to the latest version via the customer portal. Since May 2022, this has involved a total of around 50,000 orders. In 19 months, the bocad team has implemented 435 changes including 155 extensions and delivered 9 bocad releases. The results of the 2022 user survey have been incorporated into further development.
Available now bocad 2024: BIM, Point Cloud, Smart Info, Cloud Licenses
The focus of the new version is on expanding BIM capability, the basis for the digitalization of the construction industry. This enables the various parties involved in a construction project to work together by exchanging data, optimizing planning and costs and improving results. bocad 2024 is available now. The main new features of bocad 2024 are
- Collaboration is supported by faster data exchange and data synchronization with the IFC interface IFC4. Profile output during IFC export and profile recognition during IFC import have been optimized.
- BIM managers use trade-specific xml translation tables for project coordination.
- Point clouds and reference models can be stored in various formats for 3D views.
- The Smart series increases ease of use and speed. The new Smart Info tool now enables the "fastest database query in the world": Direct display of part, screw and seam information when moving the mouse over the element. The element is highlighted in color in all views and drawings.
- bocad in the cloud: following a test phase with universities, the application has been trialed and is available in the cloud. Users can work flexibly with bocad from different end devices and from any location.

Roadmap 2024: International expansion, bocademy, release plan
The further development of bocad lies in the integration of other systems, availability of the technology via the cloud, international accessibility, and systematic training of young talent:
- Expansion: Many customers are involved in international projects. bocad wants to support its customers with an international presence and is planning to expand with its own locations in the USA and the Middle East.
- bocademy: Targeted promotion of young talent and establishment of the boademy by expanding the training programme as e-learning and intensifying cooperation with universities. The cloud makes it easier to issue licenses and attract new bocad users.
- Bocad on the smartboard: the cloud allows the application to be operated on the large screen of a smartboard at the touch of a finger.
- Release plan 2024: bocad will be further developed across all modules and a release will be published every quarter.

bocad is detailed design and fabrication software for structural engineering.
