PROJECT
CHALLENGES
In Darmstadt, the energy provider ENTEGA operates a highly visible and architecturally refined e-charging park. RSB Rudolstädter Systembau was responsible for implementing the canopy structure – a combination of lightweight textile membrane and detailed steelwork, uniting functionality and aesthetics.
Challenges:
• Highly detailed and complex hybrid structure: The canopy included numerous small components made of steel and membrane elements.
• From design to buildable structure: The desired visual appearance had to be translated into an executable structure – including solutions for integrated drainage within the flexible membrane funnels.
• Accurate fit between steel and membrane: The lower steel funnel and the upper ring made of bent steel pipes required extremely precise fabrication. The membrane, pre-fabricated in the factory, had to fit the geometry perfectly.
• Detailed membrane modeling in bocad: The large number of connection points required exact placement and modeling precision.
• Complex funnel junctions: Aesthetic yet technically feasible – these node details required high design and execution accuracy.
• Welding quality and deformation control: Demanded continuous inspection, including correction work in the workshop.
• Diverse joining techniques: Rivets, screws, clamps – the variety of connection methods called for specific expertise during assembly.
ADVANTAGES
The use of bocad ensured a precise and efficient design and coordination process:
• Color-coded element organization: Using colors and line styles to differentiate primary and secondary components improved clarity and navigation.
• Selective visibility: The ability to hide and isolate specific parts was crucial for managing the complex structure.
• Subsystem approach: Dividing the model into logical sub-units (e.g. coatings, assembly sequences, construction stages) enabled seamless coordination from detailing through to site installation.
